Lacunes

Two women with long blonde hair standing in a dark, wooded forest with blurred motion, suggesting movement or windy conditions.

Lacunes explores what is left unsaid — the silences, fractures, and spaces between sound and word.

Lacunes is a program created in collaboration with soprano Fleur Strijbos, exploring what is left unsaid: silences, fractures, and the spaces between words and sounds.

Rather than avoiding these gaps, the music brings them into focus, treating absence as a place of tension, anticipation, and imagination.

The repertoire moves between familiar and lesser-known works, featuring music by August De Boeck, Piet Swerts, and contemporary Belgian composers including Alain Craens and Noah Senden.

Lacunes unfolds in fragments: moments that emerge and dissolve - inviting the listener to inhabit what lies in between.

ÉPHémère

On the fleeting nature of beauty, love and longing

Flowers bloom and fade, love blossoms and slips away, while memories linger. In Éphémère, soprano Fleur Strijbos and pianist Babette Craens explore the fleeting beauty of life, where nature reflects the ever-changing landscape of human emotions.

From Clara Schumann’s intimate songs and the delicate sound worlds of Fauré and Debussy to the blossoming roses of Richard Strauss and the poetic imagery of Belgian composers Lodewijk Mortelmans and August De Boeck - each song captures a passing moment of love, longing or remembrance.

A poetic recital celebrating the beauty of impermanence.

dream images

Two women sitting on stairs with orange light streaks across their faces.

With Dream Images, mezzo-soprano Herlinde Van de Straete and pianist Babette Craens explore a sound world in which music and imagination are closely intertwined.

The program brings together songs and solo piano works that evoke images rather than describe them: like fragments of a dream that appear and dissolve.

‍ ‍

At its core are the Vier Lieder op. 4 by Alban Berg, alongside works by George Crumb. Moving between voice and piano, the program unfolds as a continuous interplay between text and sound.

Shifting between clarity and ambiguity, Dream Images creates a space in which listeners are invited to form their own inner landscapes.
